Research Interests
Dr Bajorek’s research is in the areas of: improved utilisation of anti-thrombotic therapy in at-risk elderly patients in a local hospital setting; implementation of new interventions in practice to support the safe and effective use of anti-thrombotic therapy; the development of decision support tools to assist clinicians prescribing anti-thrombotic therapy; development of warfarin instructional material for patients and carers (video and booklet); and, increasing the engagement of clinical pharmacists and medical agencies in a discussion on pharmacist prescribing.
Dr Bajorek is a Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice in the Faculty of Pharmacy at The University of Sydney with a Conjoint Lectureship in Clinical Pharmacy with the Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service having occupied both positions since 2005. She has published 21 refereed journal articles and has been a member of teams that have been competitively awarded just over $2 million for research projects.
Dr Bajorek is a highly experienced clinical educator lecturing to clinical and allied health professionals including in-service, grand rounds, continuing education and promotional campaigns, for example American Society of Health System Pharmacists Mid-year Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland 2002; and, Royal North Shore Neurosciences Nurses Symposium in Sydney in 2005. She is a regular reviewer for journals such as Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and the Annals of Pharacotherapy. Dr Bajorek has been an invited speaker at both national (Young Investigator’s Symposium for the Australian Pharmaceutical Science Association Conference in Melbourne in 2004; and the Australasian Pharmaceutical Sciences Association Annual Scientific Meeting in 2007 where CARAT was introduced), and international conferences (Antithrombosis Center, College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois where her presentation in 2006 was Optimising the use of antithrombotics: Research in Australia; and, her 2005 presentation to the Singapore Pharmacy Congress entitled Bridging the gap between hospital pharmacy practice and academia).
Dr Bajorek has also had the privilege of being the Alexander Schmidt Research Fellow at the Clinical Practice Advancement Centre of the University Health System Consortium in Chicago during 2002. She has completed supervising of 2 doctoral students and 8 Higher Degree Research students, in addition to 11 Advanced (Honours) candidates. She is currently supervising 6 Doctoral students, 2 Master of Philosophy students and 2 Advanced (Honours) students.
