Australian Propolis as a source of biologically active compounds. (Anti-cancer activity).
Propolis is collected by honeybees from different types of plants. The chemical composition of propolis varies depending on the geographical flora of the area. Different samples from different location in Australia have been collected for analysis. By using our new method of H-NMR guided fractionation, we’ve been able to isolate two new cinnamic acid derivatives and a fraction of stilbene derivatives. The two cinnamic acid derivatives were new and never been isolated from natural sources. Currently we are trying to isolate and determine the components of the stilbene derivatives fraction also testing the compounds on different cancer cell-lines. Also we are going to conduct a structure-activity relationship study to provide more information about the activities of these compounds.
