Professional Ethics in Pharmacy

Professional ethics in pharmacy is a core attribute in every aspect of the profession. The regular coverage in the media of issues pertaining to ethics in pharmacy rather than new medications or issues of clinical nature, highlight the impact of ethics and decision making in health care on public perceptions and opinions regarding the profession. Issues such as the supply of Emergency contraception for example and other issues inducing controversial debate in the mainstream media and public domain, are of great concern to the public and it is the responsibility of the profession to analyse, discuss and teach to upcoming generations of pharmacists, the profession's stand on such issues in balance with the best interests of patients and clients. This research project endeavours to explore professional ethics in the profession of pharmacy in Australia and in particular the role of moral reasoning in the decision making process of every pharmacist. The ultimate aim of this project is to contribute to the teaching and analysis of professional ethics in pharmacy.
