GABAC Antagonists in Memory
GABA has been implicated in various neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, in particular memory disorders associated with Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia. GABAC receptors are located primarily in the retina and hippocampus, however their roles in the hippocampus have not yet been studied extensively. This project will examine various GABAC receptor antagonists in memory by: 1. Electrophysiology methods on Xenopus oocytes. 2. Conducting various behavioural tests on mice. 3. Examining the hippocampus for CREB, a protein expressed with memory processes.
