A model for community pharmacists to identify, assess and counsel asthma patients in need of asthma inhaler technique review and education, to result in more effective use of the treatment and improved health outcome.

The aims of this study was to determine the effect of a specialised counselling service delivered by community pharmacists to asthma patients on dry powder inhaler technique, and to assess patients clinical health outcomes. In addition, a continuing professional development module for health professionals is to be developed, to identify patients in need of asthma inhaler technique review, and to deliver counselling and reassessment with the ultimate outcome of more effective use of treatment and improved health outcomes.
