Areas of Research Interest: Effect of Clinical Decision Support Tools on Antithrombotic prescribing in patients with Atrial Fibrillation.
Optimising the utilisation of antithrombotic therapy in the elderly: Development and evaluation of a computerised Antithrombotic Risk Assessment Tool (CARAT).
Evidence shows that Antithrombotic use minimises stroke risk in Atrial fibrillation, prescribing remains sub optimal. Use of multidisciplinary risk-assessment algorithm despite some benefit has limited use in an increasingly electronic management system. A web-based version in the form of a decision support tool could potentially overcome this. In this study we will test the effectiveness of the CARAT, a newly developed web-based tool for decision support, in a multiple baseline trial. It is hypothesised that CARAT will improve the appropriateness of prescribing for stroke prophylaxis in this at risk population.
