Pharmacogenomics and Imatinib : improving dose calculation.

Individualizing drug dosage promises to provide patients with improved efficacy and reduction of toxic side effects.
In this project I will be identifying factors that affect the rate of elimination of imatinib mesylate (Glivec). These factors include metabolizing enzymes (P450s), transporters (p-glycoprotein), etc.
The initial stage of the project involves the development and validation of a LC/tandem MS method to detect and quantify imatinib and its major metabolite. After completion of in vitro experiments, these results will be correlated with Phenotyping/Genotyping data from patients being treated with imatinib.
