Areas of Research Interest: Psychotropic Drugs in Nursing Homes.

Impact of Medication Reviews to optimise Psychotropic Drug Use in Nursing Homes.

Research will focus on the use of psychotropic medications and inappropriate polypharmacy in older people living in Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF). Older people carrying a psychotropic burden will be at an increased risk of falls. A psychotropic burden index will be developed to evaluate a relationship with falls. Study on the use of medicines with anticholinergic properties in those taking anticholinesterases will also be conducted. Research hypothesis is a significant proportion of RACF residents taking acetylcholinesterase are also taking medicines with anticholinergic properties, potentially rendering them less effective.
