Effect of Selected Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Herbs on Putative Cancer Stem Cells

Hoechst 33342-stained side population (SP) can be considered as putative cancer stem cells. Natural products such as those from Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM) may kill the cancer stem cells which are related to cancer relapse.

The aims of my project are to find out TCM herbs and subsequent compounds that specifically target SP cells, to delineate detailed mechanisms leading to the reduction of SP cells by those SP-specific compounds and to study their effects on normal immunological cells such as T and NK cells.
