Quality use of analgesic medications in the frail older population.

The overall aim of my work is to contribute to minimising the impact of pain on the wellbeing of frail elderly people. As a pharmacist, my focus is on the optimisation of analgesic use. My current project has arisen due to the identification of a large gap in the understanding of the behaviour of analgesics in frail older patients. Over the next 3 years I intend to conduct a detailed population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis of a number of analgesics in order to help fill this knowledge gap. Hopefully this will lead to improved outcomes for vulnerable elderly patients treated with these drugs.
