Areas of Research Interest: Gout, Allopurinol, Population PK/PD modeling.

The quality use of gout medication in particular allopurinol.

I am investigating the factors (humanistic, genetic and biochemical) which may account for some of the variability in response to gout therapy in order to build a population PK/PD model for allopurinol. This will become the basis of a web-based support service for physicians when initiating/adjusting allopurinol therapy. I am also examining the efficacy of co-administrating allopurinol and probenecid (a uricosuric agent) in gouty patients to determine if the greater therapeutic effect of the combination is dependent on renal impairment and/or disease state. This information will help improve treatment options for patients with severe and/or currently inadequate gout therapy.
