The SAR of flavonoids and their mode(s) of actions on G protein-coupled inwardly rectifying potassium channels.
G protein-coupled inwardly rectifying potassium (GIRK) channels couple to G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) such as opioid, muscarinic, and GABAB receptors. Hormones, transmitters and peptides indirectly activate GIRK channels by binding to the GPCR triggering the G protein (Gi/o) to dissociate and release the G subunit. These channels play an important role in the regulation of neuronal excitability and heart rate. Therefore, this lead to my project aims. 1. To identify flavonoids modulate GIRK channels, 2. To investigate the structure-activity relationship of flavonoids on GIRK channels and 3. To understand the mode(s) of actions of these flavonoids on GIRK channels.
