Blooms the Chemist - John Sidgreaves Scholarship

This scholarship has been established to honour Mr John Sidgreaves for his commitment to the faculty and his outstanding contributions to the profession of community pharmacy.

The scholarship is valued at $5000 and is available to a third year domestic undergraduate student:

  • entering their fourth and final year of the degree next year
  • from a lower socio-economic background (as determined by the Universities Admissions Centre - UAC)
  • with a minimum credit average in the first three years of the degree
  • with a proven interest in community pharmacy as demonstrated by full-time or part-time employment in a pharmacy for a minimum duration of one year

Applications for 2010 are through UAC Equity Scholarships and on-time applications will close on Friday 16th October 2009.

As this scholarship is recent it does not yet appear on the UAC website but you must still apply for this scholarship through the UAC application process.

A list of potential nominees will be compiled by the Scholarships Office in collaboration with the UAC. The Dean will then review the applicants and choose the best candidate based on the criteria and particularly taking into account the fourth criteria of a demonstrated interest in community pharmacy.

Scholarship for citizens of Timor Leste

The Faculty of Pharmacy is offering one scholarship to undertake the Master
of Pharmacy.

This scholarship provides full tuition fees and living expenses.

Applicants must:

  • have completed a bachelor degree in any discipline
  • also complete either a GAMSAT or MCAT test
  • meet the minimum requirement of the GPA
  • meet a minimum of 42 out of the 54 credit points in the essential pre-requisite subjects
  • have satisfactory performance in the Pharmacy Case Study Scenario

Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme

The Rural Pharmacy Scholarships have been established to provide financial support to encourage and enable students from rural and remote communities to undertake undergraduate or graduate studies in pharmacy at University. There are up to 30 scholarships offered annually, with a value of $10,000 per annum per student (ie. $40,000 per student over a four year period). Information on Scholarships/Prizes

The University of Sydney offers a range of undergraduate scholarships to school-leavers commencing degree programs. In general, scholarships are awarded based on a combination of school examination results, UAI, and other factors. Application forms and brochures are sent out to school careers advisers in early August each year and applications close September each year.

The University also offers scholarships to continuing undergraduate students based on merit. For further information about scholarships, please consult the Scholarships website

The Faculty of Pharmacy also offers prizes to continuing undergraduate students based on merit. There is no application process for prizes, students who have been awarded a prize based on merit will be notified.

Faculty of Pharmacy PhD Scholarship (FPPS)

Faculty of Pharmacy PhD Scholarships (FPPS) are available on a highly competitive basis for local students commencing a full-time PhD at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Semester 1, 2010. Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or an Australian permanent resident by the scholarship closing date. Applicants must have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours (or H1 equivalent results) or have completed a four-year degree with an outstanding record of professional and/or research achievements since graduation.

The Faculty of Pharmacy will offer these scholarships automatically upon application for the 2010 VCRS/APA/UPA through University of Sydney Research Office. Click here for more information.

W H and Elizabeth M Deane Pharmaceutical Fund PhD Scholarship

For local students commencing a full-time PhD at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Semester 1, 2010 - for research in the area of direct pain relieving drugs.
William Houison Deane was a great contributor to the University of Sydney during his lifetime, and in 1956 created the W H and Elizabeth M Deane Pharmaceutical Fund. Applicants must have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours (or H1 equivalent results) or have completed a four-year degree with an outstanding record of professional and/or research achievements since graduation. Applicants with a Bachelors and Masters degree (predominately by coursework (but with enough research components to be accepted into the PhD program) are also eligible to be considered. The scholarship will be valued at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award, and will be indexed annually.
Successful applicants must apply for externally funded scholarships, such as Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), University of Sydney Postgraduate Award (UPA) and NHMRC Scholarships where eligible.

Elizabeth Wunsch Postgraduate Research Scholarships

For local students commencing a full-time PhD at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Semester 1, 2010 - for pharmaceutical research.
The Elizabeth Wunsch Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Pharmacy was established in 1982 by a bequest from Elizabeth Wunsch. Applicants must have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours (or H1 equivalent results) or have completed a four-year degree with an outstanding record of professional and/or research achievements since graduation. Applicants with a Bachelors and Masters degree (predominately by coursework (but with enough research components to be accepted into the PhD program) are also eligible to be considered. The scholarship shall be valued at the same rate as the University of Sydney Postgraduate Award (UPA), and indexed annually. A thesis allowance, in line with UPA entitlements, shall also be available. Successful applicants must apply for externally funded scholarships, such as Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), University of Sydney Postgraduate Award (UPA) and NHMRC Scholarships where eligible.

The Ross Brown Pharmacy Scholarship

The Ross Brown Postgraduate Scholarship was established in 2007 by a donation by Mr Ross Brown, AM RFD ED to enable those of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage, or those conducting research in the fields of complementary and herbal medicines to engage in postgraduate research studies in the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sydney. Applicants must have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours (or H1 equivalent results) or have completed a four-year degree with an outstanding record of professional and/or research achievements since graduation. Applicants with a Bachelors and Masters degree (predominately by coursework (but with enough research components to be accepted into the PhD program) are also eligible to be considered. The scholarship shall be valued at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA), and indexed annually. The Pharmacy Alumni Postgraduate Scholarship Fund

The Pharmacy Alumni Postgraduate Scholarship, established by a donation by Mr Ross Brown, AM RFD ED to support Higher Research Degree students in the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sydney. Preference shall be given to those candidates conducting research with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Applicants must have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours (or H1 equivalent results) or have completed a four-year degree with an outstanding record of professional and/or research achievements since graduation. Applicants with a Bachelors and Masters degree (predominately by coursework (but with enough research components to be accepted into the PhD program)) are also eligible to be considered.
