Faculty of Pharmacy

As part of the University of Sydney, the Faculty of Pharmacy was the first Faculty of Pharmacy established in Australia. Although it has an established tradition of research and scholarship in the pharmaceutical sciences, the Faculty strives to continually improve its delivery of the highest quality education and research activities.

The Faculty of Pharmacy has an enviable national and international reputation. Students in the Faculty are taught by, and interact with, world-renowned academics and have access to teaching laboratories that are leading world best practice.

As a result of the expansion of teaching and learning across the Faculty, as well as changes to the existing and projected educational needs of our graduates, the Faculty of Pharmacy has established the Pharmacy Education Unit (PEU), which is the first of its kind in Australia. The goal of the PEU is to maintain and build on the Faculty’s significant achievements of excellence and innovation in learning and teaching, ensuring it retains its pioneering role in pharmacy education research, development and practice.

The Herbal Medicines Research and Education Centre (HMREC) was established within the Faculty to undertake and promote high quality research and education on herbal and complimentary medicines for the benefit of the community through research, education and international linkages. The Centre is a focal point for research and education of value to health care professionals, industry, government and the community on the quality, safety and efficacy of herbal and complementary medicines. To compliment the research activities of the Centre, the Faculty offers a number of programs of study in herbal medicine.

The Faculty is a leader in the area of Pharmacy Practice. Its practitioner teachers also work in community pharmacy and can share valuable practical knowledge with students. They are sponsored by the Pharmacy Practice Foundation.

The three Chairs within the Faculty are in the area of Pharmacy Practice; the most recent Chair of Pharmacy Management is the first in Australia. these Chairs are also funded by the Pharmacy Practice Foundation who are currently working on funding a fourth Chair.
