Practitioner Teachers

Specialist Practitioner Teachers

The Pharmacy Practice Foundation, in conjunction with some of its sponsors, has funded three Specialist Practitioner Teachers based in hospitals in metropolitan Sydney. These positions provide the Faculty of Pharmacy undergraduate students with expert support while they are gaining practical experience in specialist areas of clinical pharmacy.

Our specialist practitioner teachers are all based in hospital outpatient clinics where they have an established pharmacist role within their specialty teams. This vital work serves to enhance the professional recognition of pharmacists’ expertise among other health care professionals and patients. It also offers a number of our students a unique opportunity to observe and learn from these excellent role models while on placement in the clinic.

The Specialist Practitioner Teachers also develop and deliver individual disease management workshops in diabetes, asthma and heart failure to all final year students. Their clinical experience is pivotal to the successful training of our students in this evolving area of pharmacy services.

Practitioner Teachers

The Pharmacy Practice Foundation supports a number of Practitioner Teachers with the ongoing support from a number of pharmaceutical and healthcare organisations. Our Practitioner Teachers provide undergraduate pharmacy students with an exposure to pharmacy practice issues.

The Practitioner Teacher program is a much valued and critical element in the delivery of a high quality education to pharmacy students undertaking both the Bachelor of Pharmacy and the Master of Pharmacy programs. The practitioner teachers collectively represent a broad spectrum of the profession including: community, hospital and consultant/specialist pharmacists. They engage in a range of teaching activities, which include tutorials and lectures on topics related to their area of pharmacy practice specialty. In addition they organise and deliver exciting and challenging clinical placement programs for our students in hospitals and specialist clinics.
