Infrastructure Tours

Pharmacy Practice Foundation Infrastructure Tours were established a number of years ago as a way for participants to gain an introduction to and understanding of the pharmacy industry as a whole. During the tour, participants are taken to the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney, the GlaxoSmithKline consumer products plant at Ermington, the Merck Sharp & Dohme prescription products plant at Granville and then end the tour at the Sydney base of the pharmaceutical distributor Australian Pharmaceutical Industries.

Previous tours have been attended by state and federal Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Shadow Ministers, Shadow Parliamentary Secretaries, personnel from Ministers/Shadow Ministers' offices and senior departmental officers from across a range of important portfolios. Key medical, pharmacy and other health officials have also been involved.

All of the companies visited on the tour are major sponsors of the Foundation. The opportunity to bring influential people to visit sponsors’ sites and see first hand the high quality of production and service provided by these companies is an additional important way for the Foundation to demonstrate its appreciation for their ongoing support.

For several years, these tours have been organised by Warwick Wilkinson.
