Phill Woods has been the convenor and facilitator of the PPF Retail Seminars for several years. He is himself a leading figure in pharmacy, and lectures in pharmacy management at Griffith University, Queensland. Phill has brought together some of the country’s leading experts in their fields to educate and equip pharmacists and pharmacy students in the ‘business of pharmacy’.

Annabel and Moltke

Bruce Annabel (left) and Michael Von Moltke (right) together presented the 2007 seminar “The Gold and the Garbage about the PBS Changes to Generics”. Together they addressed the topics of generics, the PBS, profits, competition and commercial imperatives in a changing pharmacy environment.

Retail pharmacists fulfil a critical role in Australia’s healthcare sector. In the 21st century, an increasingly competitive business environment, regulatory change, and continuous technological developments are just a few of the issues facing retail pharmacists in Australia. Of course pharmacists need to be experts in the growing body of knowledge, preparation and dispensing of pharmaceutics. Increasingly however, they need to become experts in retail business management, a field which traditionally has not been offered as part of pharmaceutical studies.

To help address this need, the Pharmacy Practice Foundation has developed a series of retail management seminars that are run throughout the year. These seminars are offered to provide community pharmacists with an excellent opportunity to learn from the experts, how to grow a pharmacy practice through the development of strategic business plans, refining financial management and human resource management, developing a niche market and more.

These seminars will be held in Sydney & Brisbane in 2008 free of charge.

The 2008 PPF Retail Seminars include the following presenters:

  • Brendan O'Loughlin previous National Councillor of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia
  • Peter Feros of Pharmacy Workshops
  • Fabian Dwyer General Manager ANZ - IMS Health
  • Hillary Kahn Managing Director - Frontline Strategies & innovator of the FeelGood Guide approach to Pharmacy Retail
  • Peter Rogers Managing Director and Founder of Kate Morgan weight loss centres.
