Dr. Ramin Rohanizadeh
Dr. Ramin Rohanizadeh has recently joined the Faculty of Pharmacy as a lecturer in pharmaceutics. He has more than 12 years research experience in both academic and industry sectors in the area of biomaterials, biomineralization, and drug delivery devices.
He has had an international career, having been a PhD student in France (University of Nantes) and was a Lecturer/Researcher in the US (New York University). He was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Sydney (Dept. of Physiology) and Senior Research Officer at Avastra, Ltd.
His research is focused on:
- Calcium-phosphate based biomaterials
- Ultrastructural characteristics of biomineralised tissues (e.g. bone, dentine, enamel)
- Ceramic coating on titanium implant
- The use of ceramic coating as a drug carrier
- Developing protein-based biomaterials for tissue engineering and drug delivery.
He is currently working on developing inhalable aerosol formulations of anti-inflammatory drugs for treatment of smoke inhalation injury in burn-victim patients. Ramin is the author of 37 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, and chief investigator of three ongoing research grants.
