The Discipline of Pharmacy Practice is an active teaching and research fraternity that attracts significant funding and is productive in terms of research outcomes and publication output in addition to an impact on public policy.
Annual research booklet
The Discipline of Pharmacy Practice compiles an annual document outlining its research endeavours. The 2009 Pharmacy Practice Research Booklet is now available.
Disease State Management (DSM)
Many of our research projects concern the provision of health care in a community pharmacy setting, providing cognitive health services which better inform the development of health policy and the delivery of chronic disease health care. Disease State Management (DSM) encompasses strategies to live with and ameliorate the effects of :
- Asthma
- Diabetes
- Pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Sleep apnoea
- Cardiovascular disease
- Obesity
Quality use of medicines
The use of medicines - and specifically, the aim to improve this use - is one of the central objectives of Australia’s National Medicines Policy which aims to improve the health outcomes for all Australians. Areas of research under this banner are:
